Shooting the Shooters

A couple of days ago, I spent a great afternoon with some of my co-workers shooting. They shot clay pigeons, I shot them.

I’ve been playing a little with a Photoshop filter called Topaz Adjust. (see it here)I’ve found it very handy to bring out details, colors and textures. It does call for some restraint though! I did this group shot to the extreme to give the photo a caricature feeling. The shooters were thrilled with it. I printed it out large, and it got the most comments of all!

Lazy Sunday

Just a lazy Sunday, but Sunday’s are supposed to be lazy aren’t they? It started out with a very cherished member of the family, our wonderful golden retriever, Bella.

Here in the western foothills of North Carolina we are in the midst of a deep freeze. In this part of the country, when the high temperature for the day is only 30 degrees F, it is cold! That means that Murray’s Mill pond is ice covered. A quick walk with Bella this morning and I came back with a couple of shots.

Murray’s Mill is a working grist mill located very close to our home. A great spot to walk, and very photogenic. For more info, see their website:http://www.catawbahistory.org/historic_murrays_mill.php

Sam and Cindy Tallman are the husband and wife team that make Tallman Photography.

Cindy holds a BFA from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in Dance. A relative newcomer to photography, her arts background is very evident in her abstract and flower photography. Her photographic style of color, shapes, and forms is unique and vibrant. She has won praise and accolades on the World Wide Web, and has been a regular finalist and winner in the Photo of the Week contest at Bytephoto.com, an online photo contest that includes top amateur and professional photographers.

Sam has been taking photos for many years, starting with 35mm film cameras. With the age of digital, he now has compiled a vast library of photographs ranging from landscapes, macro, and nature to lifestyle portraits. Also a regular contest winner in various online photo contests, his self portrait of himself and the couple’s dog, Bella was chosen as Photo of the Day on Betterphoto.com, a contest that draws over 35,000 entries every month from all over the world. The same photograph was also chosen as a Photo of the Day at Kodak.com, and was displayed on the Kodak marquee in Times Square, New York City.
